Tip #2: Picking up the hoofs --> don't skip these 3 steps
Here again briefly the 3 steps that you definitely should not skip:
- Stroke the horse over his entire body with both hands. If he accepts and trusts that, you can go to step 2.
- Stroke the legs with both hands from the top to the very bottom of the hoof = the horse learns that the hoof should remain on the ground when stroking down. If he understands that, go to step 3.
- Teach the horse that when you stroke from the hoof upwards (with a little “massaging” pressure) the horse has to lift the hoof. You hold on to the hoof very briefly, a second is enough.
Only when the horse understands that stroking upwards means he has to lift the hoof, you can start holding the hoof longer. You also build that up, so first 2 sec, then 4 sec, etc.
Good luck!
